Solution : Given:
Total sheep = 17
In the statement, a phrase is used 'all but' that means 'all except'.

The number of sheep that died is 9.
Therefore, the remaining number of alive sheep = 17 – 9 = 8

So, 8 sheep are left with the shepherd. Hence, the third option is correct.
