Question : Directions: By Interchanging the given two numbers which of the following equations will be not correct?
3 and 8
Option 1: 7 + 3 – 4 ÷ 2 × 8 = 9
Option 2: 6 ÷ 2 × 8 + 3 – 1 = 17
Option 3: 8 – 3 + 6 × 2 ÷ 4 = -2
Option 4: 2 + 3 – 6 ÷ 2 × 8 = 1
Correct Answer: 6 ÷ 2 × 8 + 3 – 1 = 17
Solution :
Given:
3 and 8
Replace the given numbers in the options with the original ones in the equation.
First option:
7 + 3 – 4 ÷ 2 × 8 = 9
⇒ 7 + 8 – 4 ÷ 2 × 3 = 9
⇒ 7 + 8 – 2 × 3 = 9
⇒ 7 + 8 – 6 = 9
⇒ 15 – 6
⇒ 9 = R.H.S
Second option:
6 ÷ 2 × 8 + 3 – 1 = 17
⇒ 6 ÷ 2 × 3 + 8 – 1 = 17
⇒ 3 × 3 + 8 – 1 = 17
⇒ 9 + 8 – 1 = 17
⇒ 17 – 1
⇒ 16 ≠ 17
Third option:
8 – 3 + 6 × 2 ÷ 4 = – 2
⇒ 3 – 8 + 6 × 2 ÷ 4 = – 2
⇒ 3 – 8 + 6 × 0.5 = – 2
⇒ 3 – 8 + 3 = – 2
⇒ 3 – 5
⇒ – 2 = R.H.S
Fourth option:
2 + 3 – 6 ÷ 2 × 8 = 1
⇒ 2 + 8 – 6 ÷ 2 × 3 = 1
⇒ 2 + 8 – 3 × 3
⇒ 2 + 8 – 9
⇒ 10 – 9
⇒ 1 = R.H.S
Therefore, only the second option does not satisfy the R.H.S. of the given equation. Hence, the second option is correct.
