One cannot drop an year after class 12 to appear for kvpy you can take kvpy  exam after class 12 only if you are pursuing basic science but in case if you have passed your class 12th and has not enrolled yourself in college then I am extremely sorry to tell you but you are not eligible for kvpy exam .
