The eligibility criteria for JEE Mains as stated by NTA in their information brochure is that you should either score 75% marks in your class XII exams or should be within top 20 percentile in your board. If you don't have 75% marks, you should once check for the top 20 percentile criteria. As during reporting for any NIT or IIT they ask you board percentage and verify that with original marksheet. Thus if you are not meeting criteria you would be rejected with no excuses.
My advise is to check if you are in top 20 percentile and also keep looking for other college's counselling processes. I advice you to go through this article for better understanding of the eligibility criteria.
