If 40000 is your obc rank then I regret to inform you that with this score you cannot get admission into any prestigious college of engineering like nits or iiits.
As even for lower nits and lower branches in them like metallurgical engineering the obc closing rank ends upto 16k to 17k.
But if 40000 is your general category rank.
Then under obc category you will definitely get admission into nit , you might though not get your desired branch or desired college but you can get admission.
