It is not necessary to use your Aadhaar for identification. But during the application filling, if you are a Aadhaar verified student, you don't need to fill the self declaration form. However non aadhar students need to fill the form and get it signed by parents with the thumb impression of the student.

Also, it is better to just carry your aadhaar card during exam if you have one.
