As you are a ST candidate chances for you to get good private colleges are high due to reservation.VIT chennai and srm have reservation for ST students through jee mains.So you can try in these well known private colleges and even if you dont get a seat in the said universities then also in chennai there are many private colleges which are good and have reservation,you will surely get a seat in mechanical in any of those colleges.

You have less chances in government colleges based on your rank you can try in private colleges.
