Yes, it is mandatory to have studied mathematics in 10 + 2 in order to be eligible for MSc chemistry in IITs.
Admission in IIT in MSC chemistry is through IIT JAM examination
For reference,
IIT JAM eligibility criteria for MSC chemistry in IIT is provided below:-
- You should have studied chemistry in all the three years of your graduation
- You should have studied mathematics in 10 + 2
- You must get at least 55% or 5.5 CGPA out of 10 CGPA in graduation if you belong to General or OBC category
- You must have got at least 50% or 5 CGPA out of 10 CGPA in your graduation if you belong to SC ST or p w d category.
So, unfortunately if you don't have nothing close to the new feel to fulfill the eligibility criteria of IIT JAM and the won't be eligible to pursue MSC chemistry from IITs
