The basic explanation is the tetravalent nature of carbon that means, carbon can share not only one but maximum four electrons with atoms in order to form multiple bonds,hence it is very reactive and there is countless possibilities of reactions in the case of carbon compounds. This is the main reason why carbon makes organic Chemistry a separate branch.
