The 4 year gap is really big.Generally people take one year gap for preparation for JEE or Other competitive exams but for 4 years you should must have a solid reason. But there is no rule till now for the gap between 10th and 12th boards.You will not face any problem in NITs or IITs, 4 Year gap will problem you during the JOB INTERVIEW.

But if you are giving the JEE exam in 2020 you should have passed your 12th board in 2018 or 2019 or appearing in 2020.
