Lieutenant denotes the rank of the officer.A lieutenant is generally the beginning phase of an Army officer which requires them to learn about the history of the regiment,their customs and traditions,working procedures and languages.It requires a lot of patience and dedication and they don't even get to relax.

In Indian Army,the lieutenant deals with administrative and managerial works.It is rather a short-lived post as a lieutenant soon gets promoted to higher ranks.It's basically a learning phase where lieutenant is taught to take responsibilities when promoted to higher ranks.Since it's the  beginning for them so they are made to work round the clock. They are made to night patrolling,LRP work,QRT work,officers mess in charge along with many more.
