Yes you can appear in one or all main subjects as private candidate but not in the additiional subjects or in the failed subjects.

you can give improvement exam in 2 subjects.
and for preparation for jee-main: cover all the syllabus of NERT books(PCM) and check it out previous years question papers and solve them.
