First off,be sure of your calling. To be honest, Photography is one of most uncertain professions ever where you can only survive if you have intense passion for capturing moments in order to keep the memories from running off. If you want to be a photographer just for the sake of getting "best salary" then this field is not for you.
To begin with,you must have the passion for camera and an artistic outlook. Get yourself enrolled in Bachelors or Masters degree of Photography,though there is no such compulsion. Irrespective of your course you can pursue this art. Do internships.Work on Portfolios. Send your portfolios to companies which generally prefer freelance photographers.There  are Portrait Photographers,News Photographers,Commercial and Industrial Photographers,Fashion Photographers etcetera.
To be able to work with good companies abroad you must have work experience along with splendid CV.
The pay might be less initially,but  with time and your hardwork things would surely become smooth.
