The basic strategy to study for GATE is
Step 1 : Know the Syllabus.
The first step the students need to take is to collect the correct syllabus.

Step 2 : Select the Best Reference Books for GATE Civil Engineering.

Step 3: Identify Which Topics you need to study first.

Step 4 :Preparea Study Plan.

start your preparation in 3rd year of B.tech. watch video lectures or NPTEL lectures and then study different books for particular subjects, also solve study material of any prestigious coaching. at last solve previous year questions and give mock tests.

Sorry I'm in final year . I will write the gate exam in 2019.In this status what can I do?

follow the same steps but first cover topics having more weightage.
