The whole MBA period is roughly divided into 2 phases. One is the Internship phase where a candidate gets to have a hands on experience in the jobs performed in the specific domain in which he/she is specializing in. The other is the final placement which is the unsaid motive of every candidate in their journey towards pursuing an MBA degree.

Talking about the internship phase, it ranges for a period of two months and generally continues in the month of APRIL and MAY. Once a candidate starts his/her trimester or semester(whichever the case maybe), the placement committee starts approaching to the companies for Summer Internships. The ones which gets converted comes to the campus, conducts their own processes(Group Discussions, Case Presentations, Personal Interviews, etc.,) and selects a candidate (maybe more than one candidate in some cases) based upon their requirement. That candidate is offered a stipend for a period of two months which may range from few thousands to few lakhs of rupees.

Now here is a catch. Towards the end of the Summer Internship processes, startups start to come to the campus. Since there are in the initial period of their business, they often take up candidates without offering any stipend. Though it is not common to every startup, but few do come to every other campuses and offer internship positions without any stipend. IIMs, XLRI, SPJAIN, FMS and all other B-Schools do have a small number of companies which come at the end without any stipend opportunity for the interns.

Now coming to the question, there is no eligibility criteria for achieving stipend but of-course, the companies that come to take up interns do have some specific criteria and the CVs get shortlisted according to that. After that they select the candidates based on some process and offer them the position of an intern to work for their company.

Hope that answers your query!

Hello,

Students who are studying mba from iim's will not be provided any kind of stipends. According to their curriculum, it is compulsory for the students to attend and complete an summer internship for nearly 8weeks in between their first and second year. For this internship, they will be paid amount by the companies they are working with.
