Course Overview

Data science is the study of using machine learning techniques and statistics to analyse raw data and find patterns and information. Several industries use it to make better business decisions, and researchers employ it to test out models or theories. The Data Science for Engineers programme will explore two main concepts, Big data and Data Science.

Data Science for Engineers certification syllabus has been designed in association with NPTEL and IIT Madras. Professors Raghunathan Rangasamy and Shankar Narasimhan will teach the course, which aims to introduce participants to programming language R, familiarise them with mathematical foundations for data science, study data science algorithms, and provide practical knowledge using case studies.

Data Science for Engineers training is an eight-week online course with the option to obtain certification. Candidates will have to submit periodic assignments and appear for an end-of-term offline exam to qualify for certification. Furthermore, organisations like Honeywell, Gyan Data Pvt. Ltd., Ford, and ABB, recognise this programme, and thus, learners can seek job profiles in similar industries.

Data Science for Engineers training by Swayam is a free audit MOOC. There is only an Rs. 1,000 fee for candidates who want to appear for the test.

Eligibility Criteria

To join the Data Science for Engineers program, candidates will receive ten hours’ worth of pre-course study material. They should learn and practise the same before enrolment.

Certificate Qualifying Details

Besides that, participants need to submit all assignments and appear for an exam to qualify for the certification. They must score a minimum of 10/25 in assignments and 30/75 in the exam. A final score will be decided by adding the exam and assignment marks. The minimum passing final score is 40/100.

Participants who fulfil all the above-mentioned criteria and cross the final score minimum requirement will be given the certificate.

Admission Details

Candidates can participate in the Data Science for Engineers online course by following the below-given guidelines:

Visit the website link: https://onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in/noc21_cs23/preview and click on the 'Sign-in/Register' button on the right-hand side top corner of the website.
Candidates need to either create a profile on the Swayam platform or log in if they already have an account.
Select ‘send verification code’, after which, Swayam will send it to your email.
Receiving it, enter the code and choose ‘create’ to start your account and conclude admission.

Application Details

The Data Science for Engineers program has no form-filling. Candidates can either log in with an existing account, create a new account by entering an email address along with a username and password, or sign in using their Microsoft, Google, or Facebook account to enroll.

Evaluation process

Data Science for Engineers training participants has the option to appear for an exam to qualify one of the criteria of receiving a certificate. The examination will be held in a designated exam center. There will be no online exam, only an offline proctored one. All the details related to the examination such as the examination date and time, the exam center address, etc. will be given to the participants beforehand via the form.
