Best college for engineering in Maharashtra

Posted on 18 Jun' 19 by Pankaj
Batch of 2014 | B.Tech Information Technology
COEP is the word you will remember for your entire life once you graduate from this top rated college in Pune. Take either Computer science or IT and you will not regret in your life. placements in these two branches are almost 90% with Average package of around 7 LPA and top 20% people getting more than 10 Lakhs per annum to be honest. Being the graduate from this college I strongly recommend this college if you are not getting top 7 IITs through JEE. Get very good score through MHT-CET and get into COEP that's it.

If you consider colleges from Maharashtra only (excluding IIT and NIT), CoEP is the best in every aspect. However a college of CoEP's stature should aspire aggressively for National recognition. The pros: 1) Out of the world extracurricular: Often there are so many things to do, you will find your head spinning deciding what to do and what not. 2) Campus: Located in the heart of the city, CoEP boasts a boat club of its own. The campus is very well maintained, the hostels are better than average. 3) Placement: If you do fairly well, you have a very good chance of landing one of the best jobs available in your area of expertise/engineering. The Cons: 1) Faculty: Even though some of the departments of CoEP have very good faculty members, others lack considerably. This not only affects the general attitude towards Engineering, it hampers the Institute's potential for research and future technical growth! 2) Placement: Even though the placement is good, it could very easily be improved by taking a few managerial clever decisions. In my 4 years here, I have seen that the faculty in charge of the placements is often too careless which costs people their whole career paths! But they didn't seem to care. 3) Focus on Research: I think CoEP in general lacks in it's focus on research. Most students just want a placement and most faculty member just want their salaries! All in all, CoEP is a good place to be. It has a good network of Alumnis and a lot of potential for improvement. I would love to see/contribute to CoEP growing in all possible ways! :) Cheers.

It is one of the oldest in India.....It is government autonomous college... Infrastructure is very old and give the feel of Hogwards in Harry potter series.... :-) Campus is nice, green and sheady but divided in many parts...traffic is the main problem while going to one part from other..... Hostel life is good... Food is also good and affordable.... The whole year is full of extra curricular events...there is technical fest called Mind Spark...cultural fest called Impressions...National level inter college sports fest Zest.... Boat Club is main attraction of college... It has a 89 years old fest called Regatta... And what not in college.... Definitely a wonderful college.. ...

Pls help me! I am in depression. I am worried about my studies. Tomorrow is my exam and due to stress Im forgetting all my studies. When I tell my parents about it, the ignore me. They regret that they have son like me. I do not have any support. Im feeling I should not live anymore. Pls help me.

Sonali Sahu Student Expert 6th Oct, 2019

Hello,

There is nothing to worry about. You have exam tommorow so you should study and prepare well so that you give your best in the exam. That is your original potential. You are nervous so you are forgetting but its fine. Do things repeatedly you won't forget. You have less time now so just try to cover important topics or those parts you feel easy to study and remember. It is okay if you score less but try to do atleast you score high than the passing marks.

It's fine for now. Next time just try to study daily and don't try remember, try to understand that this process is done in this way. Just like same how we do daily and how we learn. we also didn't knew how to walk when we were born but we fell down many time to learn walking properly. Those who fear to fall they don't learn how to walk easily and they need support.

No need of support if you have confidence in yourself. There are many big things left to do so don't think negative and learn everything as how we learn to walk.

It's okay to fall down. You are in the same stage of falling down and soon you will learn how to do things perfectly. Don't worry and just do your studies. Everything will be okay.

About the regret part, don't think about those. Just think that study is your life and studying is your duty. Books are your friends and your companinon. Leave the whole world and think about yourself. It's okay to be selfish sometime when other person forgets to care. and It's completely fine.

Hope it helps!

The placement percentage at SVNIT, Surat on an average is above 90% for CSE candidates and the average package for the same is around 11 lakhs per annum( CTC ). Thus its definitely better in terms of placement that College of Engineering, Pune.

My exams are 1 week away. How can I prepare for it. Im in 11th Class PCM.

ÑÍthesh 1st Oct, 2019
Haii shreyas!!! I'll tell you some tips for for 11th PCM follow If you like. Chemistry: This subject requires more concentration so keep practising everything and remember bit to bit. NCERT is enough iff you write and remember line to line. Physics : some of the main topics to cover is like thermodynamics, law of motion, gravitation, oscillations and waves.firstly do practice the important derivations. Remember the formulas to solve the problems.Better to write formulas in a notes to keep remember and for revision. Read conceptual questions by understanding the theory in it don't by heart it and then remember the main points in that question. While coming to maths:some the topics to cover is trignometry and yahh...R.D sharma is prescribed and ease to prepare in this Bionomical and Conic sections,p&c,trignometry(8,9,10,11of RD. Sharma) .Do practice the problems clearly in an order because the questions will be given in the advanced level. Do practice well for the exam. All the best Shreyas!! Give your best in your examinations. And in practicals also. Good luck!

About College:

India has several of these institutes termed as the College of Engineering, suffixed by the name of the city it is located in. These were usually started when none others existed in the entire region for the topic of engineering. Many of them are also amongst the most respected in their region. One of them is the College of Engineering in Pune (CoEP), in Maharashtra. It was founded way back in the year 1854, making it the third oldest engineering college in the entire country. Chronologically, it stands only behind those established in Chennai and in Roorkee. The total campus spans over an area worth thirty- seven acres of land.

This campus is located at the strategic confluence of the two rivers of Mutha and Mula, in Pune. The initial model behind setting up of this college was to train the officers and supervisors at the Public Works Department (PWD). Due to the history and heritage the COEP stands for, its educational pattern has been adopted as the Poona Model, a term in existence since the 1950s. Initially the COEP was affiliated to the University of Bombay, beginning in the year 1886. At present, this college is affiliated to the Savitribai Phule Pune University. This affiliation also ensures approval from the UGC (University Grants Commission).

The College of Engineering in Pune has been accredited by the NBA (National Board of Accreditation). The institute is also connected to the GIAN (Global Initiative of Academic Networks) which offers a method for the academicians to keep updating their academic portfolios consistently. The COEP runs programmes at both the UG as well as PG levels. At the under- grad level, on offer are B. Tech programmes in the engineering areas of- Civil, Mechanical, Computer, Production, Information Technology (IT), Metallurgical, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control and for Electronics & Telecommunication. At the master’s level, the courses get more technical and specialised.

So, the M. Tech programmes are available for the areas of- Embedded Control Systems, Structural Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Computer Engineering, Design Engineering, Bio medical Instrumentation Engineering, Geo technical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechatronics, Process Metallurgy, Information Security, Automotive Technology, Project Management, VLSI & Embedded Systems, Signal Processing, Process Instrumentation, Power Electronics & Power Systems, Manufacturing Engineering & Automation, Environmental & Water Resources Engineering, Digital Systems and in Construction Management. The college has now also diversified towards courses in architecture. So, the B. Plan and M. Plan courses are on offer at the under- grad and master’s levels respectively. Some diploma programmes may also be taken up for the field of engineering.

These are typically undertaken by those unable to dedicate the full term towards their academics. A lot of these may be working professionals, seeking a skill upgrade. Thus, the PG Diploma in Engineering is available for the areas of Additive Manufacturing and in Production Engineering & Industrial Management. Admissions to the UG programmes is via the MH- CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) and on the basis of merit at school- leaving exams. Scores of the national- level JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Mains may also be considered. The GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) may be used up for master’s level admissions.

The entire academics here at the COEP is run by a cohort of twelve departments, each with expertise in its own area. Eight of these are for the areas in which the B. Tech programme may be taken up. Another two are for Physics and Mathematics. Yet another is the Department of Applied Sciences. And finally there is the one for planning. The college is also a key facilitator of a Ministry of HRD initiative with the World Bank. It is a programme titled TEQIP (Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme). Research too plays a very important role, here at the College of Engineering in Pune.

To fulfil this purpose, the library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes. The COEP also publishes a student- driven newsletter titled Abhijaat, to chronicle all campus events. There is also a thriving student life on campus. Several clubs are societies are run to fulfil the students co- curricular and extra- curricular needs. This includes societies or clubs for Debate, History, Mathematics, Science, Software Development, Spic Macay, Satellite, Robot Study, Cyber Security and many more.

The placements here at the COEP have also picked up accordingly. Some of the key recruiters to campus in recent seasons have been the likes of- Hewitt, Godrej, GSK, ONGC, Intuit, RIL, TCS, Wipro, IBM, HP, ZS, Infosys, Accenture, Deloitte, Atos, Patni, Amdocs, John Deere, Nvidia, IOCL, Newgen, BPCL, L&T, ITC, Daimler Chrysler, Cummins, Schneider, Essar Steel, Syntel, Ashok Leyland, Honeywell, Sterlite, Siemens, TCE, Bajaj Auto, GCI, National Instruments, Texas Instruments, Toshiba, Billimoria, Tata Power and many more. All this and more has helped the CEOP climb up across national level rankings. The NIRF (National Institutional Rankings Framework) has placed the college as the 49th best among engineering colleges and 91st overall.
