National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST), Berhampur was established by a group of academicians and technocrat educated in the top institutes of India and abroad in 1996. The institution is also known as NIST. The institute is the very first engineering college functioning under Berhampur University and southern Odisha. National Institute of Science and Technology, Berhampur is recognised by the University Grants Commission and is an autonomous institute. NIST Berhampur is affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Odhisha. National Institute of Science and Technology, Berhampur offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes to the students.

Admissions 2021
National Institute of Science and Technology offers admission to various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses. Admission to B.Tech is done on the basis of marks scored in OJEEB exam followed by the counselling process while for B.Sc/B.Com admission will be done through the merit in qualifying examination. Admission to postgraduate courses is done through OJEE PG/MAT entrance examination. The detailed admission processes are given below:
For B.Tech:
- Candidates have to apply and appear for the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination conducted by Odisha Joint Entrance Examination Board (OJEEB).
- Candidates have to secure a valid rank in the exam.
- Based on the marks secured in the exam, a merit list will be prepared according to the rank secured in the exam.
- Further, aspirants have to participate in the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination Counselling.
- Final admission will be based on merit, participation in the counselling process, choice filling, choice locking, seat allotment, document verification and fee payment.
- Candidates with a valid score of JEE Main will be considered however they have to participate in the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination Counselling.
For B.Sc/B.Com:
- Aspirants have to apply online on the NIST website.
- Admission will be based on the merit of the qualifying exam.
- Based on the merit of the qualifying exam, candidates will be shortlisted.
- Shortlisted candidates will be offered admission on the basis of merit of the qualifying exam, institute level document verification and fee payment.
For Ph.D:
- Candidates have to apply on the website of Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Odhisha.
- Aspiring candidates have to appear and qualify for an entrance test conducted by the university.
- Candidates will have to appear for viva voice which is the second stage of the admission process.
- Aspirants who have qualified GATE/NET/GPAT/CAT/XAT/QIP or any National level recognised test or candidates having been granted fellowship by recognized organization (such as DST Inspire etc) are exempted from the entrance test and they are required to appear for the viva voice conducted by the university.
- Final admission will be based on the marks secured in the entrance test, performance in the viva voice, university-level document verification and fee payment.
For M.Tech:
- Candidates have to apply and appear for GATE and secure a valid score.
- Based on the GATE scores, candidates have to register for the OJEE PG counselling process conducted by the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination Board.
- Non GATE students with a minimum of 60% in aggregate or CGPA 6.5/10 in B.Tech/BCA can also apply however, GATE students will be given preference.
- Final admission will be offered on the basis of merit of GATE scores, participating in the OJEE PG counselling process, seat allotment, document verification and fee payment.
For MCA/MBA:
- Candidates have to apply and appear for the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination for Post Graduate (OJEE PG) conducted by the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination Board.
- Based on the marks secured in OJEE PG, a merit list will be prepared.
- Further candidates have to register for the OJEE PG counselling process for choice locking, seat allotment, document verification and fee payment.
- For MBA All India Management Aptitudes Test (MAT) scores will also be accepted.
- Final admission will be based on the marks secured in OJEE PG, participation in the counselling process, choice locking, seat allotment, document verification and fee payment.
For M.Sc:
- Candidates have to apply online on the website of National Institute of Science and Technology, Berhampur.
- Aspirants have to appear and qualify the admission test conducted by the college.
- A merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks secured in the admission test and academic merit with a weightage of 30% and 70% respectively.
- Candidates will be shortlisted according to merit.
- Shortlisted candidates will be offered admission on the basis of merit, institute level document verification and fee payment.

NIST, Berhampur is an autonomous institution recognized by the University Grants Commission. It is one of the very good colleges in India with better placements. It has an NAAC rating of A. Also, the gym is available here. Also, it is associated with many MNCs and top institutions. It also has many internal clubs in it. First of all it is strongly recommended that you have knowledge about the institute prior to locking in the choices.
As far as NIST is concerned, it was a college will good research facility, academic-industries tie up, recreational facility such as grounds for various physical games are available, medical facility provided, and a lot more.. which you can read on their official website (http://www.nist.edu/about/nistataglance.html)
Although it has a median placement package of 3 LPA for Engineering and 2.6 LPA for Architecture. You can make a better choice if you have peer reviews from alumni or students of that college which you can read on this page .

Silicon Institute of Technology is the best for CSE branch from the above mentioned colleges. The college is in the core part of the capital city, Bhubaneswar. The academics is excellent along with the faculty members who are very helpful. You will grow as a student in academics as well as in co-curricular activities. The placement for CSE branch is also very good.
The other college are also good but have the demerit too. So, choose wisely.
