Industries are in the era of digital shift and are looking for employees who are skilled and up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends. In the rat race of becoming the best, sticking to your core competencies without having any extra skills will not let you shine. Today, getting certified by IIT online courses not only makes you different from the flock but also increases your chances of getting paid higher than your colleagues.
IIT online courses are not just something random coming on your social media feed. It is a wide canopy of courses that India’s prestigious institute provides, ranging from certificate programs to specialisations and minor programs to full-time online degrees. Still wondering whether a certification course from IIT is worth it and how IIT online courses can increase your earning potential? Let us break this down below.
Before moving to the job and salary opportunities one can get after pursuing IIT certification courses, let us understand what online IIT certification courses are and what is the need for IITs to provide online learning.
According to the report by McKinsey & Company, from 2011 to 2021, the number of learners looking for MOOCs increased from 3,00,000 to 220 million and it is increasing exponentially. During COVID, everyone learnt that online courses are far easier to learn from wherever you want and that you can learn multiple skills without having to deal with a financial burden. On top of that, when someone gets certified by IIT, what else can one need to show their credibility and specialisation in the field?
Some of the top certification courses offered by IITs are digital marketing, Python, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, data analysis, web development, and others. IIT online courses are offered through online platforms such as Swayam, edX, Coursera, GreatLearning, and others. Most of the certification courses by IITs are free of cost and students have to pay only a nominal fee to appear in the exam and get their certificate.
Companies do not even think twice about hiring them on higher packages if someone comes with four different skills such as certification in project management, Python, data analysis, and others with their core competency. In this situation, the company hired one candidate instead of three and made a profit even after paying more than the actual. It is a win-win situation for both parties.
Pursuing IIT online certification courses offers a significant scope for career advancement, skill enhancement, and industry recognition; these courses are designed by top-tier faculty and industry experts, ensuring high-quality education that aligns with current industry demands.
After completing IIT certification courses, individuals can take on roles such as data scientists, AI engineers, software developers, cybersecurity analysts, and more. Job responsibilities typically include designing and implementing algorithms, analysing data, developing software solutions, ensuring system security, and optimising business processes.

The answer depends on individual goals, circumstances, and expectations. If you are looking for a way to gain specialised knowledge, enhance your resume, and learn from some of the best minds in the field, an IIT certification course can be a valuable investment. However, it is important to approach it with realistic expectations and a clear understanding of what the course can and cannot offer.
Ultimately, the value of an IIT certification course lies in how you leverage it. If you actively apply the knowledge and skills gained, network effectively, and use the credential to advance your career, it can certainly be worth it. On the other hand, if you are expecting it to be a shortcut to success without putting in the effort, you may be disappointed.
On Question asked by student community
Hello Geeta,
No, you cannot directly take admission in Class 12 without passing Class 11. Every recognized board, whether CBSE, HBSE, or any private school board, requires students to complete Class 11 first. Skipping Class 11 is not allowed.
Since you are doing Class 10 from NIOS, you have two options:
Continue in NIOS and take admission in Class 12 (after getting your 10th marksheet).
Take admission in Class 11 in any regular school or open school near Jhajjar, and then move to Class 12 after that.
If you skip Class 11, your 12th certificate will not be valid, and you may face problems during JEE registration and admission to IITs, as JEE requires valid 10th and 12th marksheets from recognized boards.
So, it’s better to complete 11th first (regular or open), then do 12th. That way, you will face no problem in JEE or IIT admission.
Hope it helps !
Hi there,
Yes, you will be eligible to appear for the JEE exams in the year 2027 if you meet all other criteria. But you cannot complete your 10th and 12th in consecutive years, as it requires a minimum of two years' gap between both classes.
NIOS, like all other recognized boards, follows this rule. You cannot skip class 11th. And if you complete your 12th class in 2027, considering you will complete your 10th class in 2025, you will be eligible to appear for the JEE exams in the year you passed 12th and the subsequent year.
Hope it helps!!!
Hello aspirant,
With tuition and housing costs included, the anticipated total costs for a four-year B.Tech program at IIT Delhi for General/OBC students range from about rupees 8.63 lakh to over rupees 10 lakh. While SC/ST/PwD students pay a substantially lesser cost and those with lower family incomes may qualify for waivers or scholarships, General/OBC students pay a higher total course charge.
Thank you

The cut-off for getting admission to IIT Delhi through JEE Advanced depends on your category, course, and the year. For general category students, the rank usually needs to be between 100 and 5000. For example, Computer Science requires a rank around 100 to 120, while Civil or Textile Engineering can go up to around 4000 to 5000.
In terms of marks, you usually need about 40 to 45 percent of the total marks in JEE Advanced to get into IIT Delhi if you are from the general category. Students from other categories may need slightly fewer marks.
