Basic Concepts in Enzymology at St Mary's College, Thrissur

Enzymes are essential components of the biological system. Enzymes are biological catalysts that catalyze a wide range of metabolic processes that keep life going. Enzymes aid in the process of life in all living forms, from prokaryotes to eukaryotes. As a result, studying enzymes is critical to understand the molecular foundation of life.

Basic concepts in Enzymology training is an introductory program designed for undergraduate students majoring in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and other life sciences such as Zoology and Botany. Basic knowledge of biological catalysts can lead to new paths of multidisciplinary research. This program would also serve as a basis for further Enzymology study.

The Basic Concepts in the Enzymology syllabus are intended to expose students to different theoretical and practical elements of enzymology. This course covers key points such as nomenclature and enzyme classification, the factors influencing their activities and the mechanism of enzyme action, enzyme kinetics, enzyme regulation, enzyme inhibition, purification, enzyme isolation, and various clinical and industrial applications of enzymes. The program will be divided into tutorials, lectures, and discussion/interaction sessions.
