In a strategic collaboration to meet India’s growing demand for skilled semiconductor professionals, the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi), the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), and NorthCap University Gurugram (NCU) have jointly launched a BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) with specialisation in Semiconductor Design and Technology. This four-year, industry-integrated programme blends academic rigour with hands-on training, aiming to equip students with skills in chip design, fabrication, and semiconductor equipment technology.
The BTech ECE in Semiconductor Design & Technology blends core electronics principles with specialised training in semiconductor materials, device design, fabrication, packaging, and testing. Through laboratory-based education and through exchanges with industry, and project work with top semiconductor companies, students gain practical experience.
Core Academic Areas Include:
Nanotechnology and Semiconductor Materials Engineering
Semiconductor Physics & Microfabrication Techniques
Chip Design & VLSI Systems
Equipment Design and Manufacturing
Advanced Packaging and Testing
Programme Highlights
Duration: Four years, eight semesters.
Specialisation: Semiconductor Design & Technology within BTech ECE.
Credits: 25 application-based credits developed jointly by IIT Mandi, NSDC, and NCU.
Learning Modes: Combination of online, offline, and hybrid classes.
Immersion Training: Six lab-based training sessions at IIT Mandi.
Industry Connect: Direct exposure to top semiconductor firms via NSDC partnerships.
Global Opportunities: Collaboration with Taiwan and NCU's partnership with National Tsing Hua University (NTHU).
Also check IIT Mandi courses to know other BTech specialisations offered by the college.
Adding a global dimension to the programme, NCU has partnered with National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan — one of the world’s top semiconductor research institutions. Through the Taiwan Education Centre (TEC) at NCU, students will have opportunities for advanced training at NTHU laboratories, gain exposure to Taiwan’s semiconductor industry, undertake joint research projects, and learn Mandarin to build cross-cultural skills. Considering Taiwan creates over 60% of the world's chips and 90% of the most advanced chips, this collaboration provides students with a direct connection with the global semiconductor centres of innovation.
The programme aligns with the India Semiconductor Mission, which aims to position the country as a global leader in chip manufacturing and R&D. Backed by the government’s $10 billion incentive scheme, the sector is attracting significant investment from Tata Electronics, Vedanta-Foxconn, and Micron. With semiconductor demand projected to grow by 29% by 2026 and the advanced packaging market to be $43.5 billion by 2030, there is also increased demand for engineers in the VLSI design, fabrication, and AI specific chip development. Additionally, ensuring domestic supply chains will help in reducing dependence on imports.
Graduates of this programme can pursue diverse roles such as semiconductor device designer, fabrication engineer, VLSI (very large scale integration) and embedded systems engineer, chip packaging and testing specialist, nanotechnology researcher, or AI chip architect. The skills learned will provide job openings with global leaders such as Intel, TSMC, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, Micron, and Applied Materials and all the markets around the globe, including foreign opportunities.
Many companies visit the campus for IIT Mandi Placements and provide job opportunities to the students.
Given the specialised nature of the programme and exclusive access to IIT Mandi-certified courses, seats are limited. Students passionate about entering the semiconductor revolution are encouraged to apply early to secure admission. Students can check IIT Mandi admissions for better understanding.

Hy,
When comparing different IITs and their respective programs, it's essential to consider factors such as placement statistics, career opportunities, faculty, research facilities, and overall reputation.
If you value the prestige and established placement record of a more established IIT, IIT Kanpur would be a strong choice for mechanical or chemical engineering. If you're interested in emerging fields with strong placement potential and can leverage the growing reputation of newer IITs, Mathematics and Computing at IIT Mandi, Ropar, or Patna is also an excellent option.
Hello aspirant,
All of the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi's placement-related operations are managed by the Career and Placement Cell (CnP) at the institute. Faculty, placement officers, and student volunteers make up the CnP. Numerous businesses come to the campus each year to place employees at IIT Mandi. Campus placements are advantageous to the candidate as well as the recruiter. YSprinklr, Amazon, TI, Adobe, Walmart, Flipkart, Robert Bosch, Uber, Goldman Sachs, Indeed, Tatamotors, and many more companies visited the campus for IIT Mandi placements.

Thank you
Hope this information helps you.
Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi has an active VLSI programme for the students targeting admission in 2022. The candidates are selected through an all India entrance examination (GATE) followed by a written test and an interview.
Candidates with their branches in engineering such as BE or B. Tech in Electrical Engineering (EE), Electronics & Communications (ECE), Instrumentation (INI), Associate membership of professional bodies equivalent to B.Tech. (EEE/EE/ECE/IN) and M.Sc. in Electronics Science will be considered eligible for this course. (This is from the official notification from IIT Mandi VLSI MTech).
Hope I have answered my question. All the best!
IIT MANDI is a Government Institute of National Importance. It is UGC approved institute and comes under the category of new IIT's.
The institute don't offers the course of BTech in Software Engineering, but if you wish to be a software engineer after studying from IIT MANDI, then you need to do the course of B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering . Most of the software engineers in India are from the CSE branch and this is the course which is studied for being a software engineer.
The admission to the course of BTech CSE is provided on the basis of JEE Advanced .

I hope this helps. Goodnight!
according to this years cutoffs of iit mandi data science obc is around 1703 obc rank so you should move accordingly but at this point you should be careful that you should consider past years cutoffs for reference purposes only as the same cutoff trends may not repeat in future
