In this webinar Dr Ramasubramanian V, Director-PG Admissions and Dr Mathew Mithra Noel, Dean-School of Electrical Engineering (EE) have addressed most common questions that students have about the VITMEE which is the entrance exam conducted by Vellore Institute of Technology. Read the full article to know complete details about syllabus, exam pattern, admission procedure, and all the other queries which most students ask.

Careers360. As the VITMEE entrance exam is for MTech and MCA programmes. There are other PG programmes that VIT University offers like Integrated MTech. MDes, etc. Do these programmes also have an entrance exam?

Dr Ramasubramanian V. At VIT for 2 year Master of Technology (MTech) and Master of Computer Application (MCA) programmes, it is mandatory for applicants to appear for the Vellore Institute of Technology Masters Entrance Examination (VITMEE). Similarly for Master of Business Administration (MBA) the university has Vellore Institute of Technology Business Entrance Examination (VITBEE). But for Integrated MTech and MCA there is no entrance examination. And for Master of Science (MSc) 2 year programme applicants are given admission based on their performance in the UG degree programme, i.e. there is no need to write VIT entrance examination for MSc.

Careers360. What is the syllabus for VITMEE? Is the BTech and GATE syllabus enough to crack VITMEE?

Dr Ramasubramanian V. The VITMEE exam syllabus is mentioned in the information brochure, which is available on the university website under the Admissions tab. The information brochure is made available course-wise and school-wise for applicants convenience. Applicants can go through the VITMEE syllabus by downloading the same. The VIT Masters Entrance Exam syllabus is similar to that of GATE.

Careers360. If I have qualified GATE, do I have to write the VITMEE examination?

Dr Ramasubramanian V. Vellore Institute of Technology Masters Entrance Examination is compulsory for all applicants seeking admission to two years MTech and MCA programmes.

GATE qualified applicants will be given preference for and admission to the above mentioned programmes and fellowship which is offered through the AICTE.

Careers360. What is the difference between MTech and ME? Some of the best universities/ institutes like BIT’s offer ME programme whereas VIT offers MTech programme, why so?

Dr Ramasubramanian V. Which programmes to offer is a university/ institute level decision, NITs and IITs name the courses as Technology i.e. MTech, But at college level they are named ME as the infrastructure offered by college is not the same as compared to that of the universities.

The programmes Master of Engineering and Master of Technology are the same. Technology only means that the university/ institute is having advanced instruments, latest infrastructure and qualified faculty.

Careers360. How to decide which specialization to choose while taking admission to a BTech programme?

Dr Mathew Mithra Noel. It is very important to choose the field of Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programme wisely. There are a few things that aspirants should look into before selecting the graduation specialization.

    • Select the field that is growing exponentially.

Careers360. I graduated in EEE in 2019 and worked in the software field till February 2021, and then I took a one year gap to prepare for the PG exam. Will I be eligible for placements if I join the PG programme in VIT?

Dr Mathew Mithra Noel. At Vellore Institute of Technology students are eligible for placements after the first semester. At the end of second semester students get an internship or a guaranteed job. So if the students have a break in their studies or career the university does not restrict students from placements.

But industries and organizations have their own requirements for hiring students. Some are liberal and do not focus on the students gap years, whereas others may take that into account.

At VIT students are able to find any industry best suited to their skill sets which looks at performance of students on various parameters.

Dr Mathew Mithra Noel. From the latest news, students might know that there is a lot of hype around Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it is now being used around the world.
