What is Engineering

Engineering is a branch of science and technology which is concerned with building, designing, and use of machines and structures. It is a professional degree program which is four years long and awards either Bachelor of Engineering or B.Tech degrees after its completion.

This course is focused mainly on scientific theory concepts and experiments. Eligibility Criteria (UG & PG) of Engineering

Eligibility criteria are necessary to receive admission from targeted students and aspiring engineers. Various subject courses and mark scores are required for the engineering admission process. The eligibility criteria for UG and PG are different as per the need of universities.

For Undergraduate degree

  • Candidates must have scored at least 60% in class 12.

  • Candidates must have completed their 12th in science stream with maths, physics, chemistry, and biology as a part of their subjects.

  • Admission is granted based on Entrance exam scores or based on merit depending on the institutions.

For Postgraduate degree

  • Candidates must have scored at least 60% in the previous bachelor degree course.

  • Individuals must have completed their bachelor's degree in BE/B.TECH.

  • Admission is granted based on Entrance exam scores or based on merit depending on the institutions. 

Entrance Exams for Engineering Course

With lakhs of candidates wanting to pursue engineering courses in India, entrance exams must be conducted for the admission process. Various entrance exams are held by many universities for engineering courses.

JEE Main- JEE Main is an online National Level entrance exam conducted to grant admission for engineering programs. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is 3 hours long.

JEE Advanced- JEE Advanced or Joint Entrance Exam Advanced is a 3 hour long online national level entrance exam conducted by one of the IITs every year. 

BITSAT- Birla Institute of Technology and Sciences conducts BITSAT (BITS Admission Test) to screen the candidates for admissions to various engineering courses like B.Tech in Information TechnologyB.Tech in Computer Science and so on.

VITEEE-  VIT Vellore conducts VITEEE, a computer-based test for admissions into various undergraduate engineering courses offered by its participating campuses.

SRMJEEE- SRM Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed University) conducts the Joint Engineering Entrance examination for admission to UG engineering programs (B.E./B.Tech) on the basis of candidates' scores in the entrance test. 

KEAM- The Commissioner of Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala conducts the Kerala Engineering, Architecture and Medical (KEAM) entrance exam to offer admission into various engineering colleges in the state.

GATE- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an online entrance exam conducted to grant admissions to postgraduate engineering courses in IITs. The exam is conducted by IITs on a rotational basis. It is conducted once a year and is 3 hours long. More than 1000 universities accept students with GATE scores to grant them admissions to the PG engineering courses.
