Who is eligible for admissions in Chandigarh University?

While the university offers a diverse range of programmes in various streams, the basic eligibility criteria of Chandigarh University remains the same for all the programmes.

  • For UG programmes, the candidates must have passed class 10+2 examination from a recognized board with a minimum of 50% marks.

  • Candidates who wish to take admission in PG programmes must have passed a bachelor's level programme from a recognized university with a minimum of 50% marks.

(Note - The candidates who are awaiting for their final year results are also eligible to apply for admission to their desired programme)

Chandigarh University admission through CUCET

The CUCET entrance examination was initiated a year back to assess students based on their knowledge in the applied subject and analytical ability. CUCET is an entrance cum scholarship test. The idea behind the CUCET entrance test is to reward the meritorious students with a scholarship programme and assist them in providing affordable education.

While it is necessary for the candidates who are applying for B.E, B.Pharmacy, MBA, Integrated Law programs (BA+LLB, BBA+LLB, BCom+LLB) and B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture programme to appear in the CUCET exam, the candidates who have scored 90% marks in the last qualifying examination are exempted from the exam. The online examination is conducted in the various exam centres around the country. The total duration of the CUCET exam is two hours. The result of Chandigarh University (CUCET) is sent to the candidates through email on their registered email address and is also published on the official website of the university. The shortlisted candidates are invited for the counselling based on their ranking obtained in the entrance examination. To avail the scholarship benefits offered through CUCET exam, the candidates have to submit the 30% of total fees within 15 days of the declaration.

Chandigarh University admission based on merit

The candidates who do not wish to appear for the entrance examination can also grab a seat based on their last qualifying examination marks. However, they will not be entitled to the CUCET scholarship benefits. Such candidates need to fill up their academic details and other information required in the application form. A merit list will be released by the university based on the past academic performance of the candidates. The Chandigarh University merit list mentions the rank of the candidates assigned to them and their last qualifying examination marks. The qualified candidates need to visit the campus and complete the admission formalities. It must be noted that those candidates who have rank upto 50000 in JEE examination are also eligible for admission in BTech programme offered by the university.

Hello Aspirant,

With a BITSAT score of 172 and SRMJEEE Phase 2 rank of 14,110, securing top branches like CSE at BITS Pilani, Goa, or Hyderabad is unlikely, as their cutoffs are much higher (around 240–270+ for lesser-known branches). Similarly, SRM KTR campus for CSE closes within ~2,000–5,000 rank, so core branches at SRM KTR may not be possible, but Ramapuram or Vadapalani campuses might offer CSE or allied branches.

Now, comparing your other two options:

VIT Bhopal vs. Chandigarh University (CU):

  1. VIT Bhopal

    • Part of the reputed VIT group.

    • Newer campus but decent infrastructure.

    • Better academic reputation than CU.

    • Good placements mainly for CSE/IT streams.

  2. Chandigarh University (CU):

    • Known for aggressive placement marketing.

    • Good exposure, foreign tie-ups, and more affordable for North Indian students.

    • Decent placement packages for CSE/AI/ML, but mass placements are often on the lower side.

Which Should You Choose?

If you get CSE or CSE-related branches at VIT Bhopal then you take admission at VIT Bhopal.
If not, Chandigarh University is a decent alternative, especially if you’re from North India and want affordability and exposure.

All the best for your admission process.

Placement outcomes at Chandigarh University (CU) exhibit notable variability across different courses and departments, as reflected in recent data and student feedback up to 2024.

Engineering (CSE, IT, ECE):

The Computer Science and IT branches demonstrate particularly strong placement statistics, with reported placement rates often exceeding 90percent. Leading multinational companies—including Microsoft, Amazon, Cognizant, and TCS—frequently recruit from these departments. However, traditional core engineering disciplines such as Mechanical and Civil Engineering experience comparatively fewer opportunities within their specialization, with many students seeking alternative career paths or off-campus options.

Management (MBA, BBA):

Management programs attract reputable organizations like Deloitte, Flipkart, and ICICI Bank. The average compensation for these placements typically falls in the Rs4–5 lakh per annum range. Higher-level roles and salary packages are generally achieved by students who demonstrate exceptional performance and initiative.

Pharmacy, Biotechnology, and Sciences:

These fields offer some industry collaborations and training tie-ups, but core job placements are relatively limited. Many graduates opt for further academic pursuits or explore off-campus employment opportunities.

Hotel Management / Tourism:

The university maintains strong industry connections in the hospitality sector, facilitating internships and placement offers from prominent brands such as Taj and Oberoi. Students in these programs benefit from consistent industry engagement and practical training.

Liberal Arts, Humanities, Journalism:

Placement opportunities in these disciplines are more limited. While some students secure internships or positions with startups, the majority rely on their own networks and independent job searches to find suitable roles after graduation.

2023–2024 Placement Statistics

- Highest Package (CSE): Rs1.7 crore (International, Microsoft)

- Average Package: 5-6akh per annum (CSE/IT); 3–4 lakh per annum (other branches)

- Number of Companies Visiting: Over 700 (as reported by CU)

- Top Recruiters: Amazon, Wipro, Cognizant, IBM, Deloitte, Flipkart, Infosys, TCS, among others

---

Student Perspectives:

Strengths:

- The placement cell is proactive, offering support through mock interviews, resume-building workshops, and regular engagement with industry partners.

- The university’s numerous industry tie-ups and internship programs provide valuable exposure.

Challenges:

- Competition for high-quality placements is intense, and outcomes often depend on individual preparation and performance.

- Students from non-IT and core engineering branches face a more challenging placement landscape.

- Not all graduates secure employment within their chosen field of study, prompting some to explore alternative career paths.

In summary, Chandigarh University offers robust placement support, particularly for students in Computer Science, IT, and hospitality-related programs. Prospective students in other disciplines should be aware of the competitive landscape and consider supplementing their university experience with additional skills and proactive job search strategies.

Hi aspirant,

The Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) is the primary admissions test at the university .

  1. To apply, prospective students must first register online for CUCET, pay a registration fee, complete the application form with their academic information, and then select a date to take the CUCET examination. After the exam, the results are emailed to the candidate and displayed on the CUCET portal in their login account. Successful candidates then pay the admission fee and go through document verification to secure their spot.
  2. CUCET is the Chandigarh University Common Entrance Test. Certain programs, such as B.E., B. Pharmacy, MBA, Integrated Law Programs (B.A.+LLB, BBA+LLB, BCom+LLB), Pharm D, Master of Pharmacy, Master of Law (LLM), and Master of Computer Applications (MCA), require CUCET for admission.
  3. It is also recommended to contact the admission office of the university for latest and up-to-date information.

All the best!

Choosing between Chandigarh University (CU) and Lovely Professional University (LPU) with a 30% scholarship at both requires a careful evaluation of multiple factors. In terms of placement and industry exposure, both universities are competitive, especially for Computer Science and related fields. CU has been attracting top recruiters like Microsoft and Amazon, and similarly, LPU maintains strong industry ties and offers students global exposure through partnerships and internships. When it comes to academics and infrastructure, LPU has a slight advantage due to its expansive campus, state-of-the-art labs, and innovation hubs. CU, while smaller, has shown impressive growth and offers a solid academic environment. From a logistical standpoint, both universities are located in Punjab, but CU’s proximity to Chandigarh city may make it more accessible. The cost of living is fairly similar in both areas. However, a crucial factor is your COMEDK result. If you expect a good score, waiting could open doors to top Karnataka engineering colleges like RVCE, BMSCE, or MSRIT, which often offer better placement opportunities and industry connections. If your COMEDK score is uncertain and you want to secure a seat early, LPU might be the more advantageous option due to its broader national reputation and infrastructure advantages. Ultimately, if your COMEDK score is promising, waiting is wise; otherwise, LPU is a solid choice with your current scholarship offer.
