Physisorption

Chemisorption

Arises due to Van Der Waal’s forces

Arises due to the formation of chemical bonds

Non-specific in nature

Highly specific in nature

Reversible

Irreversible

Depends on the nature of gas

Depends on the nature of gas

Low enthalpy of adsorption

High enthalpy of adsorption

Low temperature is favorable

High temperature is favorable

No appreciable activation energy needed

Sometimes high activation energy is needed

Depends on the surface area

Depends on the surface area

Multimolecular layers are formed
