Types of M.Sc.
Master of Science is a two-year degree programme offered by different universities and colleges in distinct science fields. The degree is available in both regular and distance programmes and candidates are required to complete their graduation to take any of the courses. The duration of the M.Sc. degree is 2 years for both regular and distance programmes. IIT JAM stands for Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.s. IIT JAM is one of the biggest entrance exams in India for admission in M.Sc. degree courses. Candidates seeking admission in different M.Sc. programmes in IITs and IISC. Apart from the IITs, many National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) take admissions on the basis of IIT JAM. NEST or National Entrance Screening Test is a national level exam conducted by jointly by National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and Mumbai University - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai for admission in integrated M.Sc. programmes in the institutes. Candidates who will clear the exam will be given admissions in Integrated M.Sc. programmes in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
