Hello Vanshika,

Hope you are doing well.

Here is the solution to your question:

No. of atoms Y in CCP = N

(The number of octahedral voids generated would be equal to the number of atoms of Y present in it)

No. of octahedral voids= No. of atoms of Y in CCP= N

So, No. of atoms X= N

Compound of X and Y is in the ratio of N:N, i.e. 1:1

Therefore, formula of the compound= XY

Hope this helps.

All the best!

Hello tutee,

Here is a answer for your question.

Since, atoms of Y forms CCP (cubic close packing) which is analogous to FCC (face centered cubic)

So, effective number of atoms of Y in lattice =4

Number of octahedral voids = Number of atoms forming CCP =4

So, effective number of atoms of X in the lattice =4

Now, X : Y => X : Y

Therefore, 4 : 4 ;  1 : 1

So, the formula of the compound is XY.

Hope it helps you..
