Hello,
No, he cannot get admission in Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning if he has appeared in GATE Mechanical Engineering paper.He is eligible to get admission in any specialization allied to Mechanical Engineering only.If a candidate wants to get admission in M.E/M.tech Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning then he/she has to appear in GATE CSE paper and qualify in it.
