When you fill the form of JEE Advanced you have to select your caste from general, gen - ews, sc, st, obc - ncl, pwd etc. If you are selecting general category then no certificate is required. If you select any other category then you have to give the certificate as a proof that you belong to that community. Now, during filling the JEE Advanced form if you have to only select the category. Category certificate is shown during the counselling process. You have to take category certificate along with other documents at the venue of counselling. When results are declared, you get CRL rank and category rank. On the basis of which you get seat in IIT/ NIT/IIITs. If you fail to show category certificate then you have to take admission on the basis of your CRL rank.
