No you can wear casuals there is generally no such requirements, whatever you're comfortable wearing and is decent works. Dont forget to carry your required documents that's what matters.

Hope this helps.

Dear Vaishali, Thanks for this question. We hope that this answer will help all aspirants irrespective of the exam they might attend. With 2 female candidates not being allowed to write exam due to their religious believes colliding with the dress code, we think we need to know few things while appearing for exams. With technology evolving like never before, it has becomeimportant for a strict dress code to ensure that there are no malpractices involved so that the fair candidates do not have to suffer for no fault of theirs. These are the general rules for XAT and other exams involving Footwear, clothes, Unnatural marks, Jewellery, Appearance and Accessories. While XAT hasn't released any specific guidelines for dress code and you are allowed to wear anything comfortable, it is important to know where to draw line with being comfort because you don't want to look suscpicious and deceptive. All you get is 3 hrs of time to decide your career and future and we are sure no one wants to spoil it over silliest of the reasons.

Footwear can be anthing formal or casual. But because malpractices tend to happen in closed settings, wearing shoes, socks and footwear that doesn't show your toes can seem suspicious. In all fair means, its advisable to wear anything that lets the toes be seen. You dont want to wear the costliest of shoes and asked to be left at the doorstep becuase they cover your feet. You worry in the exam hall should be your exam and not certainly your shoes. For girls, its a wide choice because most footwear expose our toes.Given the fact that the winters are tremendously cold, socks are a safe thing. You can keep yourself warm. Socks aren't an issue.

Clothing should be as simple and as decent as possible. Comfort is what you must be looking for and not luxury. If you have kurtas/shirts/trousers with pockets, ensure that they are empty with and without your knowledge. Fashion is a wrong place for an exam hall. You don't want to be frisked to get your pockets checked. Lesser the pockets, better for you.

Now this is a festive season and we all have that cousin who is getting married and we all celebrate. But unfortunately, the biometrics don't understand it. And a scanned copy of your own thumb might look different with Henna, ink and tattoos. If there is a biometric process that you have to undergo, mismatched thumb imoressions is the last thing you should be worried about. Now a mole is a natural mark. A cut from a knife or an injury is a natural mark and the scars or wounds can validate that for you. But Henna and Tattoos are not a reason why your thumb impressions should mismatch.

Jewellery is a tricky place. We all love to get decked up. But technology also loves to deck up in Jewellery and metals. Bluetooth, minute earphones can be hidden anywhere including a chain, a bracelet or even a ring. So keep it simple. Avoid any heavy jewellery that draws unnecessary attention towards you. Jewellery is best when admired and not scrutinised.

Appearance should be decent, well groomed and simple with no heavy make up. You should exactly like the picture in your admit card. No deviations from that. A minor change in the hairstyle is understood. But do not go beyond it.

Accessories are not allowed in the exam hall. Be it your mobile phone or hand bag, glasses, wallets, etc. So, ensure you don't carry things that you know are not allowed in the exam hall. And there would be no lockers provided as well. All the admit cards scream " Your belongings are not our responsibility". So don't carry things that you know that you are not allowed.

And more importantly, if some one in an authoritative position wants to check you for any reason, don't hesitate. They are just doing their job. By allowing them to do so, you are letting them trust you. Good luck.
