Boys are admitted to Sainik Schools in classes VI and IX based on their performance in the entrance exam and an interview, and in class XI, boys are admitted based on their performance in the Class X Board examination. All 33 Sainik Schools are now accepting applications from female candidates for admission to Class VI.

Along with the admission form, students must submit an application fee of Rs. 550 (for general applicants) and Rs. 400 (for SC/ST applicants). In the final week of December 2022, the admit card for the Kalikiri admission test for Sainik schools in 2023 will be made available.
