Hello,  yes you are allowed to carry smart phones inside campus.But I suggest u to either switch off the mobile nor keep it in a silent mode during class hours.

Smart phones are not just needs but have become the necessity of the era and for students who need to be worldly and well accustomed with what is happening around in the world, they need to have smart phones and in this fast moving life when hardly people find time for themselves, reading newspapers is something of a lost trend so it's the smart phones basically, which provides information to the students on  go on their finger tips. 

Well Amrita University allows smart phones and its campus has free Wi-Fi for students too. However, students are prohibited from using their phones in the classrooms and academic block. So only this caveat has to be kept in mind, not to use phones in and around academic arena, other than that you are free to use.
