The degree you would pursue should be your independent choice,  it must not be influenced by any other's thought.
You should opt for a degree depending on your final aim.
Your career choice depends on your interest,  if you have any interest in b. Tech than opt for it otherwise go for some other course.
B. Tech is a job oriented course and there are many good colleges where you can get direct campus placements after doing B. Tech whereas other courses like B. Sc Or    B. A aren't job oriented,  these are research oriented courses and if you aim at clearing any competitive exam like the one of UPSC,  you should opt for science and arts courses.
