Aristotle was the first to attempt a scientific basis of classification .

He used morphological characters to classify plants into 3 groups as

• trees,
• shrubs, and
• herbs.

He classified the animals into 2 groups depending upon presence or absence of RBC:

• Enaima (with red blood)
• Anaima (without red blood)
