  • Hello student ,

Here is your answer:

  • Fatty acid synthesis is the creation of fatty acids from acetyl-CoA and NADPH through the action of enzymes called fatty acid synthases. This process takes place in the cytoplasm of the cell. Most of the acetyl-CoA which is converted into fatty acids is derived from carbohydrates via the glycolytic pathway.
  • Fatty acid synthesis is essential for the formation of membranes and hence for the viability of all cells except Archaea, in which the membranes are composed of glycerol–ether lipids instead of glycerol–ester lipids and are based on isoprenoid side chains.
  • Lipid metabolism, in particular the synthesis of fatty acids (FAs), is an essential cellular process that converts nutrients into metabolic intermediates for membrane biosynthesis, energy storage and the generation of signalling molecules.

Hope you are satisfied with the answer.
