Students of class 10th only are eligible to apply for NTSE. However, you can apply for Junior Science Talent Search (JSTS) which is conducted for Class 9th students. The forms will be available online in the first week of August 2018.

I am sorry to say that class 9 students are not eligible for NTSE exam. Students who are studying in class X can appear for the test provided they have obtained 60% in their class IX exam. For complete details on eligibility criteria, you can click on the following link:

Hi Akshit,

A student studying in class 9 is not eligible to apply for NTSE. The official criteria states that "All students studying in Class X in any Government or Private school are eligible to appear in Stage-I National Talent Search Examination from their respective state." A state/UT can put any additional eligibility criteria to appear in Stage-I which is conducted at state/UT level.

Thus, you'll be eligible next year for the National talent Search Examination. All the best!

For your information, students who are studying in class 9 are not eligilble to appear in the NTSE exam. According to NTSE elgibility criteria:

• Students studying in class 10 in recognized schools are eligible to appear for NTSE stage 1 exam.

• Candidates studying under open distance learning are also eligible to apply. They, however, should not cross 18 years of age as on 1st July and should not be employed.

• Students who will clear NTSE stage 1 will be eligible to apply for stage 2 national level exam
