Yes, your teacher is very right about this. You could have only changes your basic maths to standard maths in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. CBSE allowed it because of covid-19. For now, at least, there is no notification that states that you can do that in 2021 also, we'll have to wait and see, else you have to go the usual way.
