You have asked for the seat in NIT college, so first of all know this thing that NITs are taken on the basis of your JEE Mains marks.

If you will ask for the good NITs, then you should have to first qualify the eligibility criteria which is 75% + marks in your 12th Boards Exam.

Then in JEE Mains, you have now two attempts in January and April so result will be considered on the basis of best among two.

So, for getting good rank you have to score 160+ to get good NIT seat through JEE Mains.

JEE Advance Exam is being conducted for getting admissions in IITs, where only 250000 students get qualified after Mains exam.

JEE Advanced is used to take admission in iit , and other colleges that accept jee advanced score .

JEE Mains , is used to take admission in nit , iiit , gfti etc and other state government colleges .

If you are unable to clear jee advance you take colleges based on your jee mains score like nit , gfti etc .

Yes , you can get a NIT eventhough you fail to secure good marks in JEE advanced . The B-Tech courses in NiT are provided on the basis of percentile obtained in JEE mains . So , you are eligible for but College's and related counselling .
