Its depend upon the college or course that whether the admission on the basis of merit or on the basis of entrance test.

If there is common entrance test or entrance test for any collage or course then you to register yourself online on its official website by following the procedure carefully after reading the instructions given on the website .

And if admission is on the basis on the merit then after the declaration of the result of boards the collages declare the cut offs and according to it admission is done.

ofcourse you can get admission through your 12th board results, but the problem is that it would not be a government controlled or other reputed institutions. infact tthere are many private institutions which provide admission through the twelth board results, they actually give management seats also some seats as merit seats (by reducing the fees) to fill up their institute seats which are to be filled for the college to maintain that course for them. also there are some good private colleges which they give admission with the board percentage but for that you should have a high percentage of above 80%.

No, you cannot get admission in college just on the basis of your board results specially for professional courses like Btech, Barch, Mbbs, Bds etc. For these courses you will have to appear for entrances like Jee and neet, your 12th score wont matter unless you score less than minimum qualifying marks.
You can get admission in courses like BA, Bsc, Bcom other academic courses based on your 12th score.
Universities like Delhi university and Mumbai Univeristy offers BA and Bsc on the basis of your 12th score.
Many private universities like Sharda, LPU and Amity admits students based on 12 th score. Though its not for all courses depends upon the vourse you want to pursue.

It is a bit difficult to tell you if you can get admission in the college directly with only class 12 marks as you have not mentioned the college name or at least the stream. There are some colleges which give direct admission based upon your 12th results. Whereas, some colleges require entrance exams based on which the candidate gets admission. It will be easier if you mention the college name so that we can tell you if it's direct admission or through entrance.
