IIT ISM is the third oldest IIT after Roorkee and Varanasi. It has 18 academic departments including engineering, applied sciences, humanities, social sciences and management. It began as an Institute to impart mining knowledge but has come very far. It is ranked amongst the top 13 engineering colleges in India.
