The Class 10 UP Board English syllabus is divided into three main parts — Literature, Grammar, and Writing & Reading Skills. The Literature section includes prose pieces like The Enchanted Pool by C. Rajgopalachari, A Letter to God by G. L. Fuentes, The Ganga by Jawaharlal Nehru, Socrates by Rhoda Power, Torch Bearers by W. M. Ryburn, and Our Indian Music by R. Srinivasan. The poetry section features poems such as The Fountain by James Russell Lowell, A Psalm of Life by H. W. Longfellow, The Village Song by Sarojini Naidu, and The Nation Builders by Ralph Waldo Emerson. The Supplementary Reader includes lessons like The Inventor Who Kept His Promise, The Judgment-Seat of Vikramaditya by Sister Nivedita, and My Greatest Olympic Prize by Jesse Owens. Along with these, students also study grammar topics like tenses, voice, and reported speech, and practice writing formats such as letters, applications, and reports, along with unseen passages for comprehension and vocabulary building.
