Hello,
When ferrous sulphate crystals are heated, they first lose water of crystallization and the crystals change colour from green to white. On further heating, the compound decomposes and forms brown solid (ferric oxide) along with gases like sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide. During this process, the substance does not produce a characteristic flame colour like alkali metals; instead, you mainly observe the colour change of the solid and the release of pungent gases.
