It depends on which university you are talking about. In Delhi University and other prominent universities of India, the best four subjects percentage is calculated for admission in various courses. However, in some courses like B.Sc Program, PCM percentage is calculated. Also, simply calculating your BFS is not enough, there are norms within the course that should also be met to secure admission. These guidelines are available on DU website.
