If the application number is for admission in college/university, you need not worry as most of the universities or send an email after confirmation of application with all the information. You can retrieve your application number from that email. It is same in the case of any examination.

If you do not have that email, then you can call the helpline number which is available in the official website of the university. Call them and they will help you with your grievance. In case of any competitive examination, there is also a helpdesk open for 24 hours for helping the applications.
