Development activities can lead to various affects on the hydrosphere i.e. inadvertent discharge of petroleum, improper sewage disposal as well as thermal pollution are the main reasons for affecting the quality of hydrosphere.

Also humans have affected the hydrosphere on a huge scale which will continue further with the needs of the population. Which will result in global climate change, barrier in stream flow and pollution thus irrigation have exerted it's pressure on the hydrosphere existing fresh water systems.
