A Tahsildar will be the competent authority to issue income and assets certificates for availing reservations for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in civil posts and Central government services. In order to enable EWS, who are not covered under the existing scheme of reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and socially and educationally backward classes, receive the benefits of reservations on preferential basis in civil posts and Central government services along with educational institutions, the Union government has decided to provide 10 per cent reservations to EWS.
