The study of Earthquakes is called Seismology and the waves that move through and around the earth are called Seismic waves. Like any other waves, Seismic waves also move in different waves and there are different kind of waves. The main types of Seismic waves are Body waves and Surface waves. Surface waves like the name states, move along the surface of the planet while body waves travel through the Earth's inner layers. And Seismic energy is the magnitude of energy that is released during the movement of these waves. In other words, Seismic energy is the energy released by the Seismic waves.
