In Box 1, the three lines with the circles are facing upwards. In Box 2, the lines get reduced by one→(3 – 1) = 2, and the two lines with the circle on top are facing downwards. In Box 3, the lines get reduced by one→(2 – 1) = 1, and the line with the circle on top is facing upwards.
