If you want to built your career in genetics engineering you can opt for B.tech in biotechnology and later on you can opt for M.tech in genetic engineering. To get admission in B.tech program in biotechnology you have to appear for JEE Main exam to get admission in top colleges like NITs and IITs. Genetic Engineering is a very specific branch so number of colleges offering MTech in Genetic Engineering is much more than those offering BTech in Genetic Engineering.

If you have biology as a subject in class 12th then you can also go for B.Sc degree in genetic engineering.
