Yes it is compulsory for the students to give preboards before CBSE as said by some schools.However it is mandatory to send the marks to the board .The decision of taking the exam rests completely on the schools and the authorities of the school in which you are studying.Most school prefer this pre boards in order to test whether the student is ready for the board exam or not.
